The M40 is an iconic sniper rifle developed and used by the United States Marine Corps (USMC). Its history dates back to the 1960s during the Vietnam War, when it was introduced as a modified hunting rifle, the Remington Model 700. The M40 was designed as an accurate and reliable sniper weapon capable of operating in the harsh conditions of tropical climates.
Over time, the M40 underwent several upgrades, including the M40A3 and M40A5 with Surefire muzzle brake. Both variants feature improvements such as more durable stocks with adjustable cheek rests and enhanced ergonomics. Each iteration was adapted to meet the modern demands of combat operations.
